Abolition of Percentage Threshold Scheme

This is very interesting and apologies if everyone already knows about this but I've just received an email regarding the above. In a nutshell, from 6th April nobody will be able to reclaim ssp. Am I the last to know or have others been in the dark about this?

Back to tax returns........

I've got one client who stands to be hammered if anyone is ever off sick and won't benefit much from the National Insurance changes. The others would be better off long term if sickness rates stay the same. The main problem though is over the short term where some would have serious cash-flow difficulties.

I might just have mentioned this and if I did - no one took any notice. I'm thinking pasty tax reversal of policy at some point.

Hi Rob,

Yes, I had already read about this a little while ago whilst I was looking up something regarding SSP on HMRC website.  Never had to deal with reclaiming SSP before but I can imagine it may hit some employers hard.

........... and sure enough his one employee has reported unfit for work. It doesn't look like lasting very long but he's got to find £87.55 each week and he hasn't got it.

Only when the employee returns to normal working hours will he gain by about £10 per week with the new Employment Allowance so he might recoup the SSP over four years barring any further sickness :/

And on top of this some companies will have to employ a temp to cover anyone on long term sick.

I thought they were trying to encourage businesses to employ!
