I've been very un-observant (is that a real word? doesn't sound right!) and had a proper look round this site, that I use everyday! I don't know who runs it but some of the links at the bottom of the page are broken 'register as self-employed' is one of them

Only 9 of the 21 links in blue work.... has the site been updated recently?

Hi Rachel,

the progression is :

Up to 4 posts = Newbie (Red Tick)

Over 5 posts = Member (Black Tick)

Over 25 posts = Veteran Member (Gold Star)

Over 100 posts = Senior Member (Red Star)

Over 500 posts = Guru (Circled Star)

Over 1500 posts = Expert (Medal)

Over 2500 posts = Master Book-keeper (Coin)

Master Book-keeper doesn't fit on the same line as Moderator which is why mine didn't change.

There are a couple of layers to go through before you get to who owns and runs the site but in simple terms BKN is a subsidiary of a practicing firm of chartered accountants owned and run by Steve and Ross.

In principle the site exists for the same reason as the ICB and IAB which is to improve the quality and perception of book-keepers in the market and to help newstart book-keeping businesses get the best possible start.

Originally it was a forum for the Bookcert kit which was intended as a business in a box sort of idea for startig your own bookkeeping business but I think that the kit and the forum have grown apart over time.

Many thanks for spotting those broken links (and for the follow up Theresa). I know that there have been several background site changes recently and can only assume that those links became orphaned whilst stuff was being moved around.

Next time that I speak with Steve I'll include a note about those.

Kind regards,

Shaun.

I have had a problem for a while, in that the boxes on the left that show in orange or blue if its a new post just aren't there anymore, so when I want to see if there is a new post I have to click on them all which is very frustrating.

Hopefully it will get fixed soon.

That seems to be working for me Amanda.

The way that I check for new posts is hit the recent posts button at the top to refresh the screen and then check out those that are in bold meaning that I've not looked at them yet.

When I mention it to Steve I'll need a bit more info. What setup are you using? (IE, Firefox, Chrome? Windows xp, 7, 8? etc).

kind regards,

Shaun.

Cheers Amanda,

I just setup Chrome on my machine and once logged into the site rather than just viewing it the Orange writing is in the boxes.

I will report the issue that you've had to Steve and I'll also keep running both Chrome and Firefox in parallel today to see if I can spot any hiccups with it.

I'm seeing no noticable difference in speed between the two but one thing that I already like about Chrome is that the default is the real Google when you open a new tab rather than Firefox defaulting to the Mozilla front ended Google which I find poor by comparrison.

Anyway, willing to give Chrome a chance to impress so lets see whether I end up a convert (and manage to replicate your issue) over the weekend.

kind regards,

Shaun.
