Is there a HUGE list somewhere on the web that has EVERYTHING listed and whether or not it is vat able?? I have not done vat for a while and am having a hard job remebering what's what.
i.e. food - I thought all luxury items were vat-able - BUT ketchup is not??? I found it on this list, but I need 'cream' next, which I think is vat-able but is not on the list
I am doing the bookkeeping for a pub who sells food. So I am logging in food purchases.....mostly ingredients to make the food with. Is there any special rules?? as to what is vatable and not?
Thank you, I can't seemed to find any vat help sheets for pubs. I understand that all sales will be vatable but I am struggling to work out which of the purchases are vatable (ingredients to make food with)
A lot of the food purchases are made from a corner shop that is vat registered but does not set out what is and is not vatable

Try this link:- http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageVAT_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_000118&propertyType=document
It is VAT Notice 701/14. Hope it helps! It is a seriously long list
Hi Rachel,
How about just using the actual VAT paid for purchases? - Most/all supermarket receipts will have a letter besides each item indicating the VAT rate together with a summary at the bottom. Saves you having to look up each new item they buy.
