VAT amount
Permalink Closed

My client has received an invoice from Adobe Creative Cloud. When entering it on to Kashflow, there is a difference in the amount of VAT that should be charged. My calculations and Kashflow's calculations match (£7.63) but the amount stated on the invoice is different (£8.76). Can anyone suggest a reason why and which do I go with? If I go with my calculation the total invoice amount obviously differs, if I go with there's the VAT return will be incorrect?

Really needed to know what the original figures were rather than just the VAT but quick thumb nail calc I think that the original VAT inclusive amount £45.78, yes?

Which country is the service hosted in? If Germany then isn't the VAT rate there 23%

Calculating that out (#1) I get it to £8.77 rather than £8.76 but it seems as though that may be your reasoning.

kind regards,

Shaun.

#1) 45.78 should be 7.63 VAT so £38.15 excluding VAT *1.23 = 46.92 - 38.15 = £8.77 (#2)

#2) Or indeed 46.92/1.23 = £38.15

Thanks Shaun!

The amount before VAT/Tax is £38.11. If it was from Germany, which I will confirm, they shouldn't be charging VAT should they as it's with the EU?

Is your client set up with Abode as a business or as a private relationship?

Ok, the amount you gave calculates out at 23% which would be German VAT.

Its a service not a physical product so VAT will be charged.

The key is deciding which rules apply based on whether its a B2B or B2C service.

If B2B (as it should be) then the VAT will be a reverse charge.

Reverse charging is not one of my areas of expertise so I'll bow out at having identified that you are paying VAT at the German rate.

You may find notice 741A useful (or maybe not, there's a lot of it!). Here's a link : customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal

Fingers crossed someone with lots more expertise with VAT on cross border services will be able to fill out more detail.

kind regards,

Shaun.
