Client lost vat registration date - how can he get this?
Permalink Closed

Hi I have a new client and waiting for the 'authorise your agent' forms to be processed - running out of time to file online, I can't do the client authorisation with my hmrc because the client has lost his vat registration date!! how can he get this please? - do you know which helpline he will need to call to get the date?

Thanks in advance

It reminds me of the time I had to get one for a client of mine and I had the same problem. I needed VAT Registration date and box 5 figure from the last return. Neither of which I had. I phoned them up and they said they couldn't tell me and I was to get the client to phone up - they would be asked a couple of security questions. To prepare the client for the questions she would be asked, I asked HMRC. They told me "the VAT Registration date and box 5 figure from the last submitted return".

Apologies - that doesn't help your problem.
0300 200 3700 - could always try this one and if it isn't the right one they will tell you which one is.

I know I got a VAT Registration by return of post once or twice but not sure that will be quick enough for you.

I have usually been able to obtain this by ringing hmrc (whilst with the client so they can authorise me if no 64-8 in place ) and they have given it over the phone

I also got the information over the phone for one of my clients last week. I had done a paper 64-8 and needed to do the online bit to get them to appear on my online list so I could file.

If you don't have agent authorisation as yet, you can still call HMRC and request that they send the details through to your client. I had to do this for one of my clients and it only took a few day.
