Registering as agent - quickly!
Permalink Closed

I have a client who was passed on from another bookkeeper and being that it is pretty much an annual job......it took many months for the accounts to be passed on and for the client to provide the records for the year. However, I have discovered that there was payroll set up for this client - it is a sole director Ltd Co.

I am fairly happy that I can 'make up' the payment in month 12 to match the expected total for the year (the payroll was only run for the first two or three months of the 2013-2014 year) but how can I quickly get the client onto my client list?? This is in order to submit year end filing.

Incidentally, I am registered as a agent and have various codes.....but since I have registered, I have never set up any clients. I have various clients who have online registration either set up by me (as them) or set up by them and the log-in details shared with me. I would like to tidy all of this up - after I tackle this problem!

How quickly can I hope to do this......bearing in mind the 19th April is approaching fast!!

If you are registered as an agent for PAYE for Employers -Online Services, you should "Request authorisation" now. You will need the Employer PAYE reference and Accounts Office reference. This will send an activation code to your client within 7 days. So if you are lucky you will receive it in time for the deadline. If you are using commercial software or HMRC Basic Tools then you can add the new client as an Employer and submit using your agent login details.

Regards

Gordon

Does that mean that as long as you are registered as an Agent with HMRC you can submit their wage details - even if they haven't got round to authorising you to act as an Agent?
I hope so as I've one to do for an Accountant on Wednesday and the Accountant hasn't been authorised yet. And to make matters even better, the Accountant is away on holiday.

Yes, any agent authority you have will allow a "filing only" submission for the relevant tax. Your agent details get you through the Government Gateway and the clients reference for the appropriate tax allocates it to their account.
