Registering a client for PAYE

Hi All

If I register a client for PAYE do I then wait until they receive their PAYE and Accounts Office Reference numbers so I can then get authorisation to work on their behalf?

Hi Georgie

Yes, you need their Employer PAYE Reference and Accountant Office reference before you can get Agent status for them with HMRC.

Kind regards

Thank you Zoe.... Now I've got your attention biggrin why does it say on the HMRC website that I can't register anyone for PAYE before 28 days of the first pay period? ....that's cutting it a bit fine !

best wishes

Georgie

Hi Georgie

I'm not sure about that. I'm guessing because they don't want a lot of inactive PAYE schemes and that they only have time to deal with the ones that are coming up within the next 28 days. Saying that, in my experience, the codes do tend to come through pretty quickly, although do tend to be slower at this time of year due to the end of the tax year.

Kind regards

Zoe
