IAB Level 2 & 3 Computerised Accounting for Business
Permalink Closed

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here has taken this course and could give me a little more information about it. I've read a bit about it and it seems like it is a good foundation to take me into a more accounting role which is hopefully the end result.

A little background. I originally did account and finance at school and got my higher A no problem. I went on to do it at university but could only finish one year as I couldn't afford to be at school and not work full time so i do have a background in the area and wouldn't be going in completely blind.

As I can do this course from home outside of work it seems ideal and with the qualification hopefully get an entry level job in bookkeeping and continue my studies.

I've been quoted £1995 for the course including all exams. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or could tell me if this is a reasonable price etc.

All help is appreciated.

Hi Alex,

you mention get a job, not self employment.

The lowest qualification that you should be looking at for employment is AAT.

You don't mention your age but if you are early twenties you may be able to get a training contract.

For distance learning AAT try Premier Training (Nick or Neil) or Eagle Education (Sonya).

As for nearly £2k for IAB levels II and III that does seem comparatively expensive to me (I assume that includes exam fee's and membership).

AAT training for levels II, III and IV will cost about that but you will also need to factor in exam fee's and membership.

Just a slight outside the box thing to consider there.

kind regards,

Shaun.

Thanks for the advice.

I've had a look at the AAT website and then Premier Training as it is one of the tutors they recommend. From what I've read so far it does seem more tailored to what I'm looking for as the IAB would lead on to this from what I understand. I've also done some quick vacancy searches on various websites just for AAT and there does seem to be quite a lot of interest from companies looking for people holding the qualification at certain levels.

I'm currently 28 so I think I'm probably a bit old for training contracts but still not to old to learn and change.

As far as self employment goes it's not something that has interested me so far in my life. I like a structure and being safe in the comfort of an established business as opposed to the risks involved in self employment. This may change in years to come when I have more experience and confidence in my ability but for now I'm happier being the employee rather than the employer.

I'll need to wait until Monday to call and get a bit more information however it does look promising.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi Shaun,

I've not been by for a while. Just too busy (!)

BYW, unless things have change recently, student membership is free with the IAB for a year, when someone is registered to do a exam. This is completely seperate with different benefits from all other IAB membership.

IAB members do not have access to the student section of the IAB website, and Students can only access the student section of the IAB website, and do not get any of the other membership benefits. This means a IAB member who registers to do an exam, will also be registered (free of charge) separately as a student member.
