Hi

Is there a way in VT that I can view the any previous bank rec's? showing me what was included on them etc?

Thanks in advance

I have found it now at last, now is there a way I can find out what had not been reconcilled in the bank at the end of a period?

Thanks

Go in to the "Reconciliation" tab of the bank account.
Down the bottom where it says "Balance as per Statement Number _____ dated ___ " in blue.
Click on this and all the previous ones will appear.

Then just click on the blue number of entries for the one you want.

Just like anything in VT - if it's blue it is clickable.

EDIT : Might as well just leave this here in case anyone else wasn't aware.

Thank you very much Peasie, I'm starting to love VT but struggling with getting around!

Is there a way to find un-reconcilled transactions at a certain date in time? that will also include transactions reconcilled at a later date?

Thanks
Rachel

I can't see a way for this. I'll leave it for the experts to say if it possible - I just can't see it being likely.

Go to the following reconciliations and look for entries dated before the previous statement date?

I've had a quick look at this, and it may be a practical way to do it, but as the only accounts I have in VT at the moment are my own, I have very few unreconciled transactions at any statement date, so it may be harder than it looks with a proper business!

Looks like another possible way to do it is to go into the bank Reconciliation tab, click on the magnifying glass in the bottom left corner of the reconciliation and choose "All entries", "Current period", or whatever option brings up the dates you're looking for. That will bring up previously reconciled transactions. Click on one you know was reconciled in the period you're looking at, and it will highlight all the other transactions included in that reconciliation. The unhighlighted ones that are marked as reconciled will have been reconciled on a later statement.

I must stop playing with VT and get back to what I'm supposed to be doing!!!!

Hi Rachel

If you go to the "current period" screen in the bank account, then change the current period (the option at the bottom of the screen after "Year to xx/xx/xx), then select "Other".

You can then enter any date range, and it will show unreconciled entries and entries that have been reconciled within that range. The limitation is that the range has to be in the current year.

You can temporarily create a new year that covers the period, if necessary if the period does span more than one year but it is not ideal.

Edit: to change the "reconciliation" to "current period"

Am I missing something here?
I thought the plan was to go back in time and see what was un-reconciled and reconciled at that date.

Say for instance the year end was 31st March. Well we are now at 31st July and the un-reconciled transactions at 31st March will now have been reconciled. So if you go back the the "Current Period" for 31st March all the transactions will show as reconciled.

So am I
1) Missing what is trying to be done?
2) Missing how to actually do it?

Expanding on what I said in my last post, and following what Wella wrote:

Click on the strange reconciled symbol in the "A" column on a random transaction. It will bring up a window showing the statement details, including statement date and number. If it's a statement dated before the period end date you're looking at, close the window and click on the same item, but in (say) the Details column. That will highlight all the entries cleared on that statement.

Do the same again with an unhighlighted entry, until all the transactions reconciled before the period end on various statements are highlighted.

The unhighlighted entries left, will be ones cleared on statements dated after the period end. You will have seen which statement they were cleared on when you clicked on one of the items, but didn't highlight it.

To make this work properly, you will need to split statements that cover more than one period. After years of working with Sage, and knowing how to close off year ends properly, I always photocopy statements that cross a year end, and treat them as two statements in different years, crossing out the entries for the other year. So I will have a statement reconciled up to the year end. In VT you can do as many reconciliations with the same statement number as you like, so you can do one up to the period end, and another for the new period, both with the same statement number, but they will be highlighted separately when you do this.

If this doesn't make sense when you read it, try it and see! I'll probably have forgotten it by the time I need to use it for real, and will need to ask for your advice!!!!

Hi Peasie

I probably didn't explain myself very well.

If you change the date to a custom range (select "Other") that becomes the current period. That way you can see what was, or was not reconciled at a certain date.

You can then see all bank transactions in that date range. You can also see the reconciliation flag, or not as the case may be.
