Use of own washing machine to do laundry for business
Permalink Closed

I have a client who is an holistic therapist; instead of taking her towels to the laundry she washing them herself at home as this is cheaper.

In the past I have claimed the use of home allowance, but these rules seem to have changed and now it seems that we can only claim this if she uses her home as an office and works from home for over 25 hour per month.

I think the laundry allowance is only for employee's within certain sectors and not for the self-employed so I'm not sure what's the simplest way to calculate the cost of this business expenditure? Any advice or recommendations will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Elaine

Just need to estimate what you think is a reasonable charge.

Would say probably a few £s per wash would be reasonable to cover the electricity, use of machine, washing powder, fabric conditioner etc.

I agree Mark, as a general rule I stick in about £3 per week over 48 weeks if it seems applicable.
