P45 - what is the legal position

Hi Folks

Does a company have to provide a P45 legally?  My son has been chasing one for 2months!

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Thanks Sharon - I spent a while going round in the usual circles on the HMRC website - never thought to try Gov.Uk one - reckon I will be sending a copy of that in the letter. Mind you their get out clause will probably be - it doesnt say when they have to provide one, although waiting until Kingdom Comes is a bit rich! Getting off my soap-box now (for a few minutes anyway, lol.
