Registering a company for VAT
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone,

What's the best/easiest way to register a company for VAT? HMRC website states an agent can register a company but the Director has to register for on line services...is it judy easier for the client to do it all?

Hi Georgie,

I always do both bits. The application takes a little while as you have to chose what business category/SIC code it should be under and there's a lot of waffle about which scheme you want to be on but it's all reasonably straightforward.

You need to wait until you get the vat number through before you can request the authorisation for on-line submission, it's totally crazy that HMRC don't send this out at the same time as sending the vat number given that it is a requirement to submit on-line!
