I have a client who sells goods outside the UK and is VAT registered. I am going to his office tomorrow to do the EC sales list VAT return. The accountant was also coming with me to ensure everything was ok, but I have just found out he can't make it.
Now, a few things that may make a difference. The client is on SAGE, but not everything goes on there, he hasn't done any reconciling since 2004, and I think one too many end of years has been done!
So, does anyone have any hints, tips etc as to what I need to do please?
a few things- how come everything doesnt go onto Sage? How can they keep accurate records if not everything is on?
Bank reconciliation- 10 years!! goodness me that will be an impossible task especially if as above not everything is entered- how has the accountant been processing year ends?
When you say one too many year ends done- do you mean they have closed one off early?
The EC list on Sage is very simple assuming the information is accurate- it will run the report for the period required but all I can suggest is check everything if you are not happy all the info is there
I only took over in July, so going forward everything is now on SAGE, and I just have to manually reconcile the bank statement, without going back through 10 years of statements!
The accountant has never touched sage, the company don't need auditing, so that's something. The accountant is very old school and has done everything manually just having taken the paperwork away with him!
I think they closed off this year too early, so now the system seems to think it is Feb 2015. (their new year starts on 1st Feb)
I have managed to get an invoice list off sage and have gone through and found any EC sales ones, so that is one thing ticked off. I didn't realise it was so easy.
