Supplier posting (sole - LTD Company)
Permalink Closed

Hello,
We changed from a sole trader to a Ltd company in April this year which coincided with the year end.

my accountant gave me journals to enter for year end, which credited all supplier and customer records, a new bank was set up etc.

We have since made payments to the suppliers as a ltd company, these invoices are still credited off from the sole trader company.

Do i re-enter the supplier invoices that was credited at year end? do i date them before year end if so?

thanks :)

Hi there,

Yes, I would say re-enter the supplier invoices that were outstanding at year end and date them the first day of your new financial year.  Depending on what software you are using you need to post the other side of the transaction to a suspense account. (In other words post them as a creditor but do not post them to a purchases code).  Have the accountants given you a Trial Balance to input for the start of the financial year yet?  When they do it should include an amount for the creditors control account which will effectively double up on the creditors you have just entered so once you have entered the TB you will need to reverse the postings to the suspense account and control account which were created when you entered the invoices (i.e. debit the creditors control account and credit the suspense account).

I hope this makes sense and helps a bit!
