Looking for best software for me - help appreciated
Permalink Closed

Well firstly you need to know what I require, so here goes

Never used software for accounting and have been using the old paper versions, but need to get with the times, so I moved to excell but now I need more than excell, so would appreciate any feedback for a new comer to the electronic age of book keeping and invoices (preferably in layman's language)

Unfortunately 2 companies have been started up at the same time (well actually that is not strictly true, we started one and due to red tape and registering with different bodies thought it would be January before we could start trading, so opened up another company to start with which we didn't need to get the green light from registered bodies to start it up - this is part of the original one that was planned but now a separate company)

So I am looking for software to do the books for 2 companies and 2 payrolls, obviously money is tight at present, so I would love your input.

I keep going back to one software after looking on the web etc, but it is so confusing looking at them all and so thought I would ask you what you would suggest, which hopefully will narrow down and help with all my searching

Thanks in advance

You will need different software for bookkeeping and Payroll.

For bookkeeping my personal favorite is VT Transaction+ which can handle multiple companies at no extra cost. You can try a two month (sixty day) free trial before deciding whether its the software for you.

For Payroll both 12pay and Moneysoft are favorites of site members here.

You dont need different software for bookkeeping and Payroll.  Freeagent for instance does both perfectly well.

I know Shaun you are a big fan of VT but there are other options.

Quote "My personal favorite". I didn't say that it was the only option Mark.

I'm confused as to how Freeagent works? On it's website it says that you can have as many clients as you like on it for no extra cost but then it quotes seperate prices for Sole Traders, partnerships and limited companies which would seem to disagree with its previous statement?

Do you pay just one monthly fee for all of the clients that you put on freeagent Mark? (with no extra cost to the client).

Whilst £29 pcm is still more expensive than buying both (say) VT and 12pay its not substantially so and VT is not brilliant for all scenario's. (Namely box stackers and shifters).

How have you found stock control with Freeagent Mark?

Ignore my confusion above I've found the answer that I was looking for in the Accountants extras section which indicates that the bit on the pricing page that states :

"FreeAgent is completely unlimited. You can have as many users, clients and projects as you want, at no extra cost".

Is not correct as the agents page states that you pay per client but get discounts the more clients that you have (see this page) :

www.freeagent.com/accountants/

Which makes purchasing multi client seperates from other vendors a cheaper option.

Good Morning

Have a look at Solar Accounts, £174 one off payment - for an unlimited licence. Their support is fantastic and a joy to use (the ICB love it to).

For payroll  if less than 9 employees each company, you can use the 12pay Express licence for free and then only upgrade when you have to for £66.

12 pay also have a natty auto enrolment module that is quite interesting  at £121 !!!!

Regards

Trevor
