If you go on a business trip and buy snacks to eat on the drive over, is there any way this can be classed as subsistence?

I wouldn't think so -overnight trips would allow an evening meal and a breakfast but snacks for the journey I would say not

If you leave before 6.00 am when you wouldn't normally do so, you are allowed a breakfast rate of up to £5, so if you choose to buy snacks instead of breakfast then I can't see how that would matter.

Thank you. It's £7.99 worth of chocolate and crisps which just struck me as being similar to putting your groceries through :)

I tend to take a view... if its a coffee and snack on route, and the trip is unusual, I would allow. I'd be dubious about a ton of chocolate and crisps bought round the corner.
