Hi there. I have recently 'come home' to the UK after spending most of my life in Australia so please excuse me if I seem a little clueless in some areas. After many years of clerical work, I would like to try my hand at Book Keeping (initially as an employee) and to this end I have been researching online and making phone calls to various colleges. At one of these training facilities, I have found a course which seems to cover all aspects of Book Keeping including Level 2 manual double entry, Sage Accounts and AAT qualification. The cost includes the exams, certificates, diploma and AAT membership. The price I have been quoted is £1,795.00. The course really seems to cover everything I would need to be considered for a position, but I would like to know if this a reasonable charge. There is a choice of either attending the college, studying online or a mix of both. Also, out of curiosity, would someone please tell me the difference between distance learning and studying online? Many thanks in advance.
Hi, and welcome to the forum. Perhaps others will also share their views but you will find a selection of providers where you could get appropriate training for AAT for £500 - £700. With additional AAT registration and associated exam fees coming in around £400 you can see that there are cheaper options. Try the AAT providers page: http://www.aat.org.uk/training-providers/search
And also check out the current prices at Ideal and Eagle Education.
kind regards,
Shaun.

Thank you for your replies, Brian and Shaun, I will check the websites you recommend. Apologies for the confusion Shaun, the full name of the course for which I have been quoted is 'Foundation in Book Keeping Diploma with AAT Qualification', which is why I tagged it on the end. The price includes three exams; the College's, AAT Level 2 Cert in Book Keeping and AAT Level 2 Cert in Computerised Accounting. Kind regards, Sharon
for just AAT level 2 that price seems hugely expensive.
I missed Brians post last night (he posted whilst I was writing my reply) but he hits the nail on the head in that you should be looking at the Around £500 to £700 plus exams and memberhip for level 2.
The quote that you have even throwing in Sage training seems a little excessive.
Remember that the level 2 is not an end in itself but just the start of your journey which will culminate in MAAT status after 4 so plenty of expenditure to come after this initial stage that you should be thinking about budgeting for.
Good luck in your studies,
kindest regards,
Shaun.

Hope that business is booming for you at the moment,
kind regards,
Shaun.

All good, thanks Shaun. Our AAT students are doing really well and our ICB students continue to amaze . Due to restructuring I don't get the same time to get involved in arguments .......sorry , discussions, but, as with you, always keeping an eye on things.
