Has anybody ever received leads or gained wortwhile contacts from volunteering/working for charities? I've just registered on do-it.org.uk for the Preston/Lancashire area, so I've just thought to ask about your experience in this area. I'm not really a local, so I don't really know folks around here.
Thank you,
Richard

I do some work for a very small local charity but one that I had involvement in before I started my bookkeeping business. I've had one lead which turned into nothing, but I work on the basis of you never know who you are dealing with. It could be the rest of the charity's committee is made up of small business owners who have contacts they are happy to share. Work on the basis of do the charity bit because you want to help a charity/gain experience/have fun with a view to not getting any business, but if you get anything extra then it's a bonus.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
I don't believe thats true of anything but arable farming.
The reality I fear is more down to luck of being in the right place at the right time.
Most money I ever made was from a contact telephone number on a piece of paper that someone else in the office threw in the bin (I did ask if I could have it, I didn't just go firking around in the bin after their detritus).

In the good old days - I used to get to work before anyone else so that I could go through all the over night early morning faxes and do with what I thought !!!!!
It would be word of mouth promotion but also a chance to add to your resume`. You may be prevented from marketing direct to clients and to redirect any payment offered to you to the charity.
Think of it like this. You would have to project your skills to a base of potential customers. I don't know how much choice there is on the Do It website there but see if there is a post which will bring you into contact with customers that may be willing to engage your services.
