learning vt software- can employers be interested?

hi guys

I would like to look for a job as a data entry person in accounting field. I am learning how to use VT software at the moment.

My questions are :

1. If I know how to do data entry on VT software, is this going to be difficult for me to do data entry on different software ( Sage , QuickBooks   ) in case I am asked to do it on different software ?

2. Do you think potential employers like it more when employees know Sage or QuickBooks rather than VT software ?

depends what the employer uses themselves.

There are practices that use VT (including many of the Franchise operations so they would be good ones to get your CV to) but Sage still have the lions share of the practice market.

You should know how to use Sage even if its not your software of choice.

If you can pick up QB as well you make yourself more employable.

Sage and VT are very different bits of software but at the end of the day they are simply attempting to assist in storing data for the creation of financial information. The information has to be the same no matter what system you use so is you can use one peice of software then any other peice you will know what you are attempting to do even if it takes threats of physical violence to make the software do it for you.

Whatever software you work with there will be a learning curve but the more software that you get to know the shorter the overall learning curves become.

Thats a good one. Don't forget thoughthat there are another two levels of workbooks.

The newer versions are slightly different but not so different that you couldn't find your way around from the older workbooks.

I've got a mix of v14 and v15 (2008/2009) versions spread accross the three levels and except in a prettier front end I don't find them particularly different to the old V10 line 50 financial controller that I used to use.

|The version that you've purchased is two years newer than mine so you shouldn't have any makor difficulties moving from that to the latest versions if you need to.

lol, hi Trevor.

I've actually been hinting at that several times ocver the exchanges with Rafapak to look at the offerings of the training providers because they can negotiate serious discounts.And even drop hints about looking at TL, Ideal and Premier.

However, I can't advertise the products of any training provider so I just hope that people take the hint and have a look.

As it is I suspect that as this is the 2011 version Rafal will have got it pretty cheap.

I think that the most that I paid for any of mine (back in 2010/11) was £40 although one of them did cvome without the 180 day trail disk.

I think he  paid £15.98 for stage 1. The best I can see stage 2 and 3 for (on 2011) is about £130 each - and  NO Sage Certification certificates - Ouch Ouch .... All the employers want them ... The TL Sage courses were the very latest (v 20 at £245 the lot) with the individual level certificates (I did v19).

you just have to keep your eye on Ebay and Amazon resellers whilst going through the first set of workbooks if you go down that path.

Sweeping generalisation there on all employers but I think that the sentiment is correct.

Assuming that you do go for certification though, why would you ever need level I and II if you get certification at level III?

because you can't take level 3 unless you have level 2 and level 1 - a bit like Kung Fu (if you do the last stage first you die) - but nothing like enlightenment.

I have to disagree Trevor. You can take level 3 without taking level 1.

I agree however that level 3 builds on the other two levels but as far as I know there is no requirement to take the exams at those levels.

I wasn't for one moment suggesting that you don't study levels 1 and 2 before doing level 3. I was simply questioning why take the exams at levels 1 and 2 if you can pass the exam at level 3.
