Vat for plumber
Permalink Closed

I have a friend whos a plumber and about to register for VAT.  His got confused and now totally confused me with regard to how to invoice his customers.

He pays out for a lot of materials/supplies which he pays VAT his not charging VAT yet so when he invoices its for materials plus labour charges.

When VAT registered does he pass the VAT on to the customer for the materials and his labour.

Charging cost of material plus Vat

Labour plus Vat

Hope this makes sense

Think I must have been having a moment

As the he would charge for material at cost plus any profit he might put on them plus the cost of his labour and the add the vat to the whole invoice.

Think I getting a little rusty and need to do more reading.hmm

Hi Michelle
I'm assuming he doesn't show the materials and labour breakdown on his invoice - he would just show the 'job price' then add Vat.

So to get to I his new invoice figure:- cost of materials plus time to do the job plus his profit margin....then add the VAT.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
