Just failed a L3 ICB - non profit making exam - is it time to switch from self study to a training provider?

no  I have just managed to fail L3 ICB non profit making - the first 5 ICB exams i've passed through self studying with David Cox's Business Accounts but now I'm wondering if it's time to bite the bullet and sign up with a course provider at ££££ as the exams are only going to get harder and I obviously wasn't well enough prepared.  I can't re-sit until April so that gives me plenty of time to prepare a bit better for this one but if i fail again in April it could be another 6 months before i could take it again - so i'm trying to figure out what to do.

Wow - I didn't know the ICB had put time constraints/limits on retakes - I just thought you could do 3 on the trot. I really don't know where any of this is published !!!

I know how you feel - I self studied with the IAB. Were you many marks off passing? Also can you get the paper back so you can see where you went wrong?

Aw thanks, was panicking and feeling a bit sorry for myself. Trevor usually you can do three on the trot with the ICB, then you wait to have until newer versions of the exams come out, but with the switchover to the new syllabus last year they don't have three versions of this particular paper - the third one isn't due out for 2/3 months, and then another failure would mean a 6 month wait.

The passmark was 85 and i got 76 so it wasn't all that close, i'm not sure if i can get the paper back or not - will hopefully find out next week.

Well done on the self-study tang - still thinking about whether i should now sign up with a training provider, need to talk to them really - i've passed half of level 3 now so don't really want to be paying a few hundred where only 1/3 of the course is relevant.

Hi Simone

I would check with the ICB because as far as we are concerned (Training Link) ICB exams under the old syllabus have to be completed before the end of March 2015.

Hi Dave,

I'm talking about the new syllabus - did you think I meant the old one?

You weren't too far off passing! If you do manage to get the paper back at least you'll know where you went wrong. You might have just made a few tiny mistakes which all add up (I know I did - could have kicked myself when I saw some of them) - or it might have just been a particular part of the exam.

Hi Simone

I did think you meant the old syllabus but if I had read the rest of the thread I would have realised it was the new, its funny really as I did exactly what I tell our students not to do (skip read)

I even called the ICB on your behalf today and was told it was the new syllabus, I wont admit to feeling foolish so lets just keep it between ourselves?nononono

Anyway I wish you the best of luck with your BA5 exam biggrinbiggrin
