Sage 50 Payroll - Can you buy a perpetual licenced copy ?
Permalink Closed

Hi All

A quick question - Can you still purchase a perpetual licenced copy of Sage 50 Payroll ? I have seen Exchange versions which are only 12 month licences and on eBay no one is listing what exactly, you are buying.

Hi Trevor
Sage say not, but I know from correspondence I've seen that they are available until early June of this year. They are really pushing pure online monthly pay versions. You can get perpetual licences from some independent sellers or if you can get a friendly Accountant who has the Accountants package they can get you a version but you will have to be quick.

I've also been told today that QuickBooks are going down the same route.

If you go for a perpetual licence, how long will sage continue to support the product.  As Jo says, Sage seems keen to ditch it's desktop product and move everyone over to the "wonderful" world of cloud systems.

Incidentally Jo, is that you in the photo?  It's nice to see a face behind the name.  PS Don't tell Shaun, but he looks a bit stern in his, reminds me of Alan Sugar, you're fired  biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Hi, I'm not sure about the support question as I couldn't even get sage to admit they are continuing such products, actually they outright denied it.

Yes that's me, finally thought I should let me people know what the daft bat they are talking to looks like. Ooops - I've already told Shaun that his avatar scares me!

Ps Bloomin heck you were working early today!!

It's a very rare occasion when I'm up before 7.30 - 8 am but I had some accounts to finish off before travelling down to Doncaster for a couple of days.

And although this isn't facebook and you can't do likes, I'll do the next best thing and give your photo the

Always one to listen to my fan club the Avatar has now been reverted to Roger Smith... Temporarily until I can find something better.

As for the initial question. Whilst not a big fan of Sage when it comes to Payroll (unlike bookkeeping software) I can see the justification for non perpetual licensing (if not the attempt to force people towards cloud based solutions).

If the cloud is not for you then use the Sage cut off as a good time to move to 12pay or Moneysoft Payroll both of which remain desktop solutions.

kind regards,

Shaun.

Put your real picture up!! Or I have I gone to far in my demands?

Ive used 12Pay and Moneysoft and am a fan of both of them - only plumped for Moneysoft as I need CIS. Ive never used sage for payroll, would imagine based on the other sage offerings that its expensive a bit like Iris payroll - I seem to recall it was £450 compared to £130ish for the Moneysoft version I eventually opted for. £450!! Splutter splutter!

I keep meaning to swap to 12 pay, I may well do it this time round, but then I may just be lazy and carry on as normal :)

Oops - Ive just realised I read the question as a perpetual licence of Sage......as opposed to their Sage PAYROLL, so all my responses were based on me being a numpty! Doh! Sorry.

Steve - I know what you mean, sometimes its just easier to go with what you know, but 12Pay is really easy to use and they have a great helpdesk if you need it. Go for it!

I initially used 12pay, and it was quite good.  When one of my clients became a CIS contractor I had to buy the add on.  Just before renewal of the software I downloaded moneysoft to give it a try because it was cheaper taking into account the CIS,and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to use.  I like the payslip design, rti submission and CIS layout all better so have stuck with the product.

Last time I used sage payroll was 2007 and it was over £100 for 10 employees then.

One of my clients doesnt like the Moneysoft payslip design - he says that because they are not green then they dont look official. So I made them green!

Make the most of it Jo as this Avatar pics likely to have a lower life expectancy than a first world war fighter pilot!

Mine are green too, can't remember if that was the default or I changed it.

And what the heck, seeing as Shaun as shown you his I'll show you mine!!  Although how he's managed to stay that slim with his cake fetish, I'll never know!

And to think that I gave up with Sage just because they increased the price of their perpetual licences. I still haven't got my business off the ground, as I just keep seeing more about the way things are going that I don't like, and the new ways of ripping people off and restricting their use of software is one of them.

Nice to put a face to the name!     Green MUST be official then - must tell my other customers, but it reminds me too much of HMRC!

Why is the next one going to actually be in a fighter pilots outfit?

Already sitting here in my goggles, flying jacket and starched scarf ready for my photoshoot Jo.... Right, just got to pop and do the washing up, should give the neighbours a bit of a shock if they're being nosey.

Tally Ho.
