VT Transaction+ - one annoying feature
Permalink Closed

Just thought I'd point out this annoying feature of this program. Or maybe I'm using it incorrectly.

In the Universal Input Sheet, the Details field. I use this for the invoice number. I don't need a description of the item usually and if I do I will use "Notes." If an invoice number is 859326, after it is posted this will change to 859,326.00.

Most annoying. I get round it by inserting ' before the number - the same was as in Excel. Why does it convert this to a number? It doesn't do it when using a "Purchase Invoice" sheet.

Ok - rant over - time for bed.

Morning Peasie,

I don't tend to use the UIS a lot except for using as an intermediate screen when bulk loading data from Excel.

You would only use that sheet if you are inputting a large amount of data so quick fix would be to simply ignore the auto populated entry details column until you are finished entering your data then copy the details column over the top of the entry details column before posting and that way you will lose the autoformatting (as formatting is inhereted from the data being pasted).

With Excel you are of course changing from numeric to text, far easier I think in many cases to simply reformat the cells concerned by right clicking the column and changing the numeric formatting for that column to drop the decimal places and comma seperator. Or even custom format the field to the exact size so that any leading zero's are not dropped.

Being honest I don't know why VT have numeric formatting on that field but as I say, the copy past work around takes a couple of seconds for an entire bulk data sheet.

Kind regards,

Shaun.

Morning Peasie

I have just tried it, and it seems to be OK in the main detail cell but as you say, it converts to a number in the entry detail cell.

What I did is copy the main cell, and "paste as value" into the entry detail cell (right click to get the menu)

Still not ideal but you can "batch" copy the main details column, and "paste value" the whole column in to the entry details, if you have a lot, rather than add a smart apostrophe in front of every single entry.

I'll try that method later on. I've moved on to something else. I know it will work - it's just how ideal it is going to be.

You mean some other way of achieving what you want with VT or some other software Peasie?

Sorry Shaun for the slightly misleading comment. I've moved on to another piece of work that does not involve VT (or any software for that matter). Using pen and paper and even cheque books and envelopes. Remember those things - some clients still use cheques.

When I'm back using VT again I'll try this method was what I meant.
