Paying VAT by DD
Permalink Closed

One of my clients wants to pay his VAT by DD and looking in my HMRC client accounts for VAT I see there is an option to set this up. But it says I must confirm I am the account holder or an authorised signatory. Seems a bit odd if the option is there for me to do this for him?

You can do this for him online, but as you are not an authorised signatory on his Bank account they ask the question and then when you say no, if I recall correctly it will then ask you to print off an authority and get it signed appropriately. Also seem to recall you dont need to send this to HMRC but DO need to keep it with your papers as proof that it has been authorised properly - you should do this for his benefit as well as yours!! Im sure it will tell you when you tick the box.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
