Hi what software do people use for multiple companies?
I have been using 12pay but looking to change to something similarly priced (or would go quite a bit more for a simpler layout)
I want to use something really basic (but not as basic as HMRC basic pay tools!!) that is easy to use - finding lots or reports quickly and easy to trace what you have done and make amendments. I like Sage payroll but for multiple companies I bet it's seriously expensive.....I'm going to check this now.
I have just moved over to moneysoft having previously outsourced all my payroll but most of my payroll clients are straightforward directors only putting through tax and NIC free limited or simple ones that have genuine employees.
Looked at moneysoft over the weekend there and fairly easy to use and understand. Though expect will have some questions when something like SSP or SMP comes up.
Thank you very much, I have been thinking about MOneysoft as one of my clients use it as they do their own payroll and the reports that print out are really straight forward and easy to understand. I'll have a go on the trial version - do you know if there is any kind of manual with it? downloadable. or if I can actually phone them up with basic questions?
I'm not sure if there is a manual with it. I've just used the Help file any time needed.
I don't know how many questions you are allowed to ask a year, or if there is a limit.
I do know that one of the few times I did ask a question it was answered very quickly - and that was during the free trial period.

There is a 111 page manual you can view or print out from the help tab. That's what I am working through to work out how it works plus using the trial company set up.
Moneysoft or 12 pay, both have manuals via their help sections. Both also have great help desks that you can email or phone, albeit not at weekends. No limit to number of emails for either or them that I know of. They both also have the backup and restore function....I encourage everyone to backup every time they use them before closing down.
Sage and iris are bloomin expensive!!

I I started off using 12pay and I found it absolutely fine, but since switching to moneysoft a year and a half ago I find that even better. It's wonderfully simple to use and I find it's RTI function a doddle.
Problem side is going to be auto enrolment, Moneysoft have said they're not going to support it carte blanc but you can still do the calculations, which to be fair is really all you can ask for from a payroll pov. Brightpay are offering full auto enrolment functionality and it may well be that paying just under double that of Moneysoft will be worth doing. It'll also be interesting to see if Moneysoft change their minds and offer more ae functionalality, and that may well be a commercial decision they have to take if they lose too much market share.

Once you have run (ran?) the payroll you can produce a csv report with the contributions on for upload to the pension provider. Brightpay has additional functionality with letters to employees, but that's not enough for me to switch just yet. BrightPay does exactly the same as Moneysoft - it produces a csv file - they do not upload directly.
None of the payroll providers have an option where you simply press a button to upload the employee contributions. This seems to be a big misunderstanding about AE and payroll providers.
So if my twenty business all decide to have different pension providers e.g. one with NEST, one with Peoples, One with AVIVA (you get the picture) then once I've submitted my RTi, I then have to produce the csv file, then log in to NEST and upload the file. Then do the next company, again log in to Peoples etc etc. Even if they all decide to go with NEST, at the moment you have to have a separate log in for each company - though this may change in the future.
So multiple log-ins / log-outs and multiple uploads......you are adding a lengthy extra process to running payroll over what we do now. I will be charging accordingly or the client can do the upload themselves and I will provide them with the contribution file as part of existing payroll service.
Thanks for that Ken - Ive yet to read up on this! I do wonder now, more than before, if BrightPay will be able to offer the full functionality, given your comments about different providers. Im happy with Moneysoft as I use CIS and given I requested details of the fees for the CIS add on from Brightpay and never got a response then I think I will stick with Moneysoft.
Is the RedFive moniker Star Wars or Red Arrows related?
