Bookkeeping over the internet and Customer Due Diligence
Permalink Closed

Hi,

I have been contacted over facebook by a potential client to sort out her year end reports from her bookkeeping spreadsheets. It's a tiny sole trader company that has been going since October last year and has not yet made a profit, the only help she really needs is in separating out capital from revenue expenditure and making sure that she only includes allowable expenses on her tax return.

My concern is that I am based in Preston in Lancashire and she is in Basingstoke so we are unlikely to meet face-to-face. I have been trying to get local customers but this request grew out of a general small business forum which covers the whole country. How do I deal with due diligence? I can see from her personal and business pages that she has been trading over the dates she has stated but how do I check ID and address? Has anyone else been in this situation?

Thanks

Alys

You could do an online identity check.  This one is from callcredit and gives 15 checks for £72

I use Veriphy to id check clients. Costs £4 per check. I get them to send me copies of their id and then check them in Veriphy
