Mileage Claim - for a client who doesn't like the answer you give him
Permalink Closed

Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can help??, I have recently taken on a client who is a self employed lorry driver. He subcontracts to shall we say -  Mr A.

Mr A provides drivers for a company based near the docks who import vehicles that are then are driven around the country to whoever has purchased them.

My client believes that he can claim mileage, He wants to claim the mileage from his house to Mr A's then from there to the docks. The trouble is Mr A provides transport to take the drivers to the docks - so I told him he couldn't claim for that. I also told him that he couldn't claim from home to Mr A's as going to Mr A's is in effect his place of work. He doesn't seem to want to accept this and says that the other drivers claim from home to Mr A's and then on to the docks.

Firstly, am I correct in what I am telling him and secondly, how can I make him accept it. (I have shown him HMRC's guidance but to no avail)  (this job would be brill if it wasn't for the clients - ha ha ha )

regards,

frustrated bookkeeper
