I am returning to accounts after a 5 year career break because of my daughters illness which is now fully controlled.
I previously worked as a Management Accountant and was just short of the finalist stage of my CIMA studies. I have been fortunate enough to find a part time role as a bookkeeper but am looking to supplement my income by additionally setting myself up as a self employed book keeper. I am joined the forum last month and have followed the initial guidance offered to Reaney and I too thank everyone for their input.
My MLR100 is signed ready to be posted on payday. I am working through the various software options out there and have held off doing my business plan because I am considering which services to offer eg stock control or not. One huge problem I am encountering though is how much to charge and what.
Should it be per hour, flat monthly fees, a mixture etc? I appreciate that this topic is akin to how long is a piece of string and also a sensitive area but any and all input would be greatly appreciated.
The ukbusiness forums thread was quite interesting. 100 entries an hour, that's going some lol. The guy never did reveal how he managed it though.
Hazel, different areas attract different rates, so while £40 an hour might be fine in London and the South East, you'd be lucky to get that oop north.
All my work is fixed price, which I think is better for the client. Getting that right can be quite tricky sometimes, so I usually agree a price for 3-6 months if I'm charging monthly, then review.
Good luck with your new venture.

welcome to the forum and good luck with the new venture.
This is a subject thats been done on here a few times with a lot of discussion around value pricing. The only problem with doing a search of the site around value pricing though is that most of them end up in some quite agressive threads with the likes of Bob, Kris and myself.
I've had a quick glance and tis is the best one that I came accross that did not deteriorate quickly into a pitched battle.

The title of the latter discussion is a little worrying - if someone looks at that and doesn't read the thread, they might think this was a bunch of bookkeepers discussing price fixing.
