Hello, I have noticed you can use a address form to change your address on  the hmrc website, I don't need to change my address only check they have the right one. Is there a direct number I can call? Also do they update your address from your p60?

Regards

The number is 0300 200 3300.  If the address on the P60 is correct, then it's likely that HMRC have your correct address

Update for future readers, the above information is only correct from April 2015

That's what I thought but I remember reading somewhere they are not allowed to update address that way? You have to tell them direct? Not sure though

My understanding is - personal information changes are a personal responsibility. The P60 will only have a correct address if an employee has given the correct address to their employer.

When you send in our Full Payment Submissions, HMRC match employee information from the FPS to their own records that are stored on their NI and PAYE database. The key matching information is the name, date of birth and National Insurance Number (addresses will be viewed to verify that if required. When the information matches, the information from our FPS updates the individuals record on the database with the tax/ni/gross, but when it doesnt match it doesnt get updated or, even worse, there is a possibility of a creation of a duplicate employment. Individuals need to keep HMRC updated and contact HMRC if they have any concerns.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Prior to April 2015 it was up to individuals to notify HMRC if they change their address.  Now, it should be updated through the RTI if the employer has been notified.

In your case, Joanne's post is accurate, mine wasn't, so apologies for that.
