Have just started with a new client who is using QB 2008, they have transactions dating back to 2001 on this system making it very difficult to use. (20 to 30 minutes to create a VAT report) How can I Archive/Delete old no longer needed data?
Hi Penny
Dnt mean this to sound unhelpful - its just Ive never used the functionality - is there something in the QuickBooks helpfile? Whatever you do - backup a few times first, keep it somewhere safe in case of need. Im sure there is something about condensing and keeping a archive version in there.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
just did a quick search as my usual answer in situations when things start going slow is to throw more RAM at it and increase the size of the windows swap file (I've found that such tends to work slightly better than killing a chicken and offering its yet warm entrails to some lesser known deigity... Well except for internet access... Its still the a far better option for fixing that than calling the ISP's helpdesk!).
However, I appreciate that neither increasing volatile storage or sacrificing poultry to heathen Gods fixes every problem so I just located this thread which seems to indicate that you are not alone in your anguish around VAT processing :
Unusually for quickbooks discussions it seems to be a UK based thread but with an American expert who didn't initially seem to appreciate that the UK and Canadian variants of the software don't come with all of the bundled tools of the American version.
Have a read and let us know how you get on,
Kind regards,
Shaun.
