Pivot Tables
Permalink Closed

I was at a clients yesterday and they have a spreadsheet which analyses the expenses using a pivot table

and I am trying to recreate it at home. I have managed to set up the data OK, I have now got drop downs for the

most common Nominal codes, and I have used an "IF" calculation to work out the VAT where applicable, but I am

having trouble creating the pivot table to summarise the costs.

I can get the Nominal Codes to appear as the row headings but I can't work out how to get it to calculate the total

for each Nominal Code (Gross, Net, VAT).

Is there anyone who can help me with this ?

Thanks

Eunice

Ok, you've got the codes and I'm assuming what you are asking is how do you sum for each code?

You will have dragged each entry (Gross, Net and VAT) to the Values area of the pivot table field list.

If they are shouwn as anything other than sum of (quite often the default is count) left click on the field, click on value field settings and click on sum.

you will then have each nominal with the sum of each of the values against it.

hope that was what you werre asking,

kind regards,

Shaun.

If only someone out there paid people to just play with spreadsheets all day I'd be happy as a pig in muck Neil.

Unfortunately, it seems that over the years it's become an expected add on skill rather than a skill in it's own right. People don't even put it on their CV's anymore as it's just expected that you will have it.

As for growing up... You don't want to do that, it's a trap.
