Good day to you all

Welcome!

My name is Michelle, a financial advisor in one of the UK Companies (let's not mention the names now - I wouldn't want to break some of your rules so quickly :) )

I hope to find answers to some of my questions as well as meet people to share some thoughts and ideas with (not necessarily conntected to finance)

All of you have a great day!

Warm regards,

Michelle.

Welcome to the forum Michelle.  You'll find all of us quite friendly and some of us unashamedly mad (or is that just me biggrin)

So, whats a financial advisor want to know from us lil ol bookkeepers?

All the best,

Welcome to the forum Michelle.

Is that 'not connected to finance' lulling us into a false sense of security? I have a friend who is a Financial Advisor and he does that before he drops the questions in about his ex pat clients that he insists arent asking for tax advice, really, much, I just thought you could tell me..... lol.

I thought you had to be mad to do this job - isnt that the first thing they insist on when you take out PI cover?

Thank you all!

Leger - I hope there are more mad people around ;) Having to work with some of our clients has given me a certain edge when it comes to working with mentally unstable people, so I will manage ;)

Shamus - I have learnt that working closely with bookkeepers is something a smart person will do, you never know when they may come in handy ;) About the 'non finance questions' I guess we will see when they come up. Btw. I just love Roger's avatar. Are you also an avid drinker and drug abuser? :D

Cheshire - You got me there - that is exactly what I want to do! Get you all to trust me and then attack suddenly when you all least expect it ;) And no, nobody insisted on me being crazy, guess I was like that all the time.

Possibly too much red bull due to there not being enough hours in a day to take it at normal speed but that aside, nope, absolutely no drugs, ever. And very little alcohol.

Sure your going to fit in just fine here Michelle... Just, despite the name of the site it's probably worth noting that not everyone here is bookkeeper.

You'll soon get to know whose who although members come and go and come back again as other pressures of work and life allow so when you ask questions you never know who will be around to answer them.

So, tell us a bit about you? You mention that your a financial advisor. Is that an accountant working as a financial advisor? is so, which body are you with?

Are you looking to move into this field? Take more qualifications? Gain some specific area of knowledge or expertise?

Sure that we'll chat soon,

All the best,

Shaun.

Hello Shaun,

Good point about members coming and going and then returning, I find myself doing exactly the same thing. I bet there will always be someone to help with any questions I may have.

As for my experience, no, I am not an accountant, I used to work at Halifax Bank when I found out that a career in banking was not exactly for me. I started taking a variety of courses, mainly in personal finance and for some time worked as an independent financial adviser (I still offer this kind of help from time to time). Recently I have been offered a different job and here I am.

Perhaps not looking for more qualifications at this time, maybe in the future.

Michelle.

Hi Michelle
Very cloak and dagger, lol. So..... what is the 'different job' and have you taken it?

Ooh, red rag to bulls. lol.

Jo, Jo, Michelle called the Halifax a bank.

Tut, rookie mistake, you haven't realised how many of us here are from the traditional banks. (ok, fair copy, we might be banking snob's (NatWest, Barclays, RBS, Lloyds, etc.)).

So, come on, spill the beans, you're not an accountant, you're not a banker, you're not a financial advisor.... You're a lion tamer aren't you.

Lol. Welcome back Michelle. I'm sure that you mean that you've just been thrown in at the deep end in bookkeeping. As you say, ask away as there is generally someone around to answer most questions or point you to a similar answer hidden somewhere else on the site.

Talk soon,

Shaun.

Thought that this was particularly applicable as it suggests that the transition from Chartered Accountancy to Lion taming should be in smallsteps, perhaps via banking.
