just a quick thought on would you be able to claim for an eye test against your self employed business?

My first thought was no, but then to adhere to the health and safety directive of 1992 you have to provide an eye test to employees who use a visual display unit regularly.

So if as a bookkeeper you took staff on you would by law have to provide free eye tests to them, so that would be a claimable expense, so surely you can claim your own. After all you would not fall into the bracket if you were not bookkeeping.

Whats everyone's else's thoughts on this?

Hi Eilef,

I would say eye test yes, glasses no unless the prescription specifically stated for VDU usage (otherwise fails the duality of purpose test).

Have a read of the links from this thread : www.book-keepers.org.uk/t55685355/eye-testglasses-cost/

kind regards,

Shaun.

I would agree there Shaun.

It amazes me that you are able to find posts going back years covering almost every topic, you either have a database with them all saved or you just got one very good memory lol

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
