Big congratulations to all of today's winners but I would just like to single out an extra special congratulations to my fellow banker Joanne.

You absolutely deserved to win this recognition of the skill that you bring to the table, the effort that you invest, and even though I know that you are always busy with your clients that has never stopped you from always being ready to offer others a helping hand (and cake!).

I know how modest you are on here about your skills, qualifications and experience Joanne but now you know that your covers been blown and you know that we all see you for the star you are have your fifteen minutes in the sun honey buns.

You certainly had my nomination and vote and winning this shows that you also had many, many, many  more.

I think that I speak for everyone here when I say huge congratulations Joanne, you are a true credit to the profession.

Shaun..

I wholeheartedly agree.  Big congrats Joanne and a thoroughly deserved win.

Also congrats to all the other winners and runner ups, I think to even get in the Top 3 is an achievement in itself. There is a wealth of talent on here ready to help when asked and I've learnt a lot in the last couple of years I've been here.

Ive been trying to post on here since just after 4pm but have been inundated with calls. Im absolutely gobsmacked to have won this. I was amazed about being nominated and didnt think it would go this far, especially being up again the fabulous Shaun and Frauke.

Thank you so much for all the votes, I was so stunned that i have to admit that I got a bit emotional!

Well done to everyone else - all the other well deserved winners and all the runners up.

Ive said for a long time - I love this site, you help make the working day so much more interesting as well as providing so much useful information , a forum for debate and a place to have a laugh. You people make it that.

Such kind words from Shaun, john and Michelle will set me off again if you are not careful!

Lovely!

Thank you

Hi Shaun

Ive read this a few times and even shown it to a couple of old banker pals of mine that I went out with yesterday to celebrate with.  They agreed with me that it was such a lovely thing for you to do, so I just wanted to say a separate thank you for your such kind words and frankly all your encouragement over the 3 years Ive been bookkeeping and on this site.  So whilst this started as a hobby/something to keep me occupied for a few hours a week, Im looking now at a second fabulous career, thanks to your encouragement and the guys on here.

Thank you Mr M.

Oh wasnt this same spammer on the other day with a different forum name and Shaun gave her a chance to redeem herself by adding some info about her being an Accountant. You have to be a better spammer than that to get past our Mr Mod!

Do you delete the post entirely now then Shaun?  Further upthread I see our good friend Alice had spammed, and thought she was up to her tricks again. Alas that was 2016

Cheers John,

some of them I leave in line if their removal affects the flow of a thread but mostly I just delete them now as there are so many of them. One day this week I banned three people in one thread! And with this one, I might not have noticed one of the spam comments that had been sitting at the end of the thread for some time if another muppet had not come along and added more spam to the same thread.

I've just gone back and deleted the Alice one that really had no place being here. Thanks for pointing that one out .... So three sperate spammers in this thread as well. no

Hope that you've had a good week and life is treating you well matey,

All the best,

Shaun.

I thought it was spelt AWACS  - something the RAF use. Also from America a bit like this spammer (apparently!).  You arent a new member like your profile suggests - just a dumper of rubbish in in appropriate places. A fly tipper.

That one was (past tense) from the Netherlands... Don't think that we've had one of those before.

As for crypto currencies.... Tulip bulbs! (coincidence that the poster was from Holland!)

Hi John,

I'm sure they just wait until I've done my morning scan of postings before they come on site.

I personally want to get both India and Pakistan completely banned from the site.... Can you actually think of one comment from either country that has ever been worth reading? Just ends up with between 4 and 10 bannings per day. I don't even bother telling Steve anymore who I've banned

Yes, we get spam from other countries but nothing at all on the occassionally industrial scale of the spam that comes from there.

I think that when banning Alaska didn't go so well (sorry Intuit (lol)) Steve became a little more retisent about banning whole countries but personally I see absolutely no point at all allowing either India or Pakistan to post here.

Totally agree Shaun.

Just a thought, and I appreciate you may not have the time to do it, but would it be possible to have newbies first posts approved before posting?

Hi John,

I think that if we went for that option I could end up becoming a bottleneck during tmes when I'm really busy.

I have asked Steve for additional tools in my arsenal but nothing forthcoming yet.

The one that I really want is to be able to locate where someone is before I ban them. At the moment the tools are not available until I am already in the banning process... Although, a little part of me rather enjoys guessing where they are before the computer tells me. Just recently that game has mostly changed to guessing which part of India. lol.

Currently I've been leaving the corpses of posts rather than deleting them entirely in a similar way to gamekeepers hanging dead crows in the hope of scaring away others (shame, I like crows). unfortunately doesn't seem to work too well for spammers hmm.... Although, not tried hanging their actual corpses in the middle of a field yet.... STEVE, CAN I.... apparently not no... Just as well I suppose as it avoids the issue of deciding whether the rope and scaffolding was capital expenditure on a structure or, worse still, if the expenditure was for entertainment purposes!

Ooo a technical debate!

Please do provide us with your thinking alongside specific commentary around the legislation backing up your argument, with appropriate links to said legislation (not Gov.uk rubbish!)  rather than expecting all the regulars on here to do all your dirty work for free and give you all the answers to save you doing ANY research what-so-ever.winkwinkbiggrin

Well I suppose you could claim the last meal as subsistence, but I think that would be down to the spammer to claim....oh wait he won't be able to lol.

So now I'm thinking penalty charges, which can't be claimed, but then I'm  thinking company costs to impose the penalty, so maybe the rope can be claimed. w+e? yes, its only for those wasting company resources.   **** it, stick it down as an asset and claim AIA.

You all seem to be forgetting about CIS and paying the scaffolders, I do hope it has been set up and the correct deductions are being taken and paid to HMRC!

This is wrong.

There should be no discussion whatsoever of how to treat the cost of the rope and scaffolding for something like this in the accounts.

I find it truly shocking.

It is a truly shocking waste of money. However you treat it, you would be spending more than you need to
.

Just put their heads on a spike. Much cheaper - and I'd argue a bigger deterrent.
