I'm almost ready for my 1st exam, but can't book it yet.
To book an exam I need to be registered as a student with AAT, to do so I need to enroll a training provider. And here the problem comes.
In theory I need to enroll a training provider only for 1 exam (Computerised Accounting), then register with AAT, book and pass the 4 exams of the 2nd level. Only then I begin my studies for the 5th exam (Computerised accounting).
One of the providers already told me that if I enroll them I need to begin the course straight away, they won't wait for me to pass other exams. Tomorrow will call other providers.
Does anybody know if there is another less complicated way to do this?
As far as I know when you register with AAT you can just put the name of the centre you will be taking your exams with as your training provider (e.g. Kaplan) and then when you're ready to do Computerised Accounting just register with a provider, whether it be Kaplan or someone else.
BTW did you know that you don't need level 2 to become AAT qualified just Levels 3 & 4. So if you want to save yourself some money you could just do the studying for Level 2 and the practice exams on the AAT website to make sure you understand everything but skip the real exams. Then you could just go onto Level 3 when you feel ready.
YOu don't need a training provider to join AAT. Just give them a name it doesn't matter who. I bought all the books on Amazon, did the learning at home and then booked to sit each test at my local BPP or Kaplan centre, whichever had the best dates available. For the computerised accounting and other ones that had to be manually marked I bought an online classroom module with BPP (I think I used Kaplan for spreadsheets as they were cheaper). YOu don't have to do the exams in any order so I just did them in the order I wanted. That was a couple of years ago so things may have changed.

Hi angmc!
Thank you for the answer! And special thanks for the idea. I actually didn't think about this possibility, but it sounds very interesting to me especially because I already have a degree in accounting (although not a UK one).
Could you please write, where on the aat site I need to look up for the practice exam?

Hi Princess,
So glad you wrote here. I actually have read almost all of your posts about your learning experience and got inspired by it. Thank you for the answer and yes, you are right, nothing changed I don't have to enroll the provider to register.
Katrina, it's in the MyAAT, Study Support, section of the website. There's some really useful resources on there and the practice assessments are very similar to the real ones at Level 2 so if you can get through them you know you've got a good understanding of the subject. Once you've registered you can log on using this link.
Hi Katerina
Given your background within other posts, why not do the skills test on the AAT website and see what level this recommends as you will probably be able to start at level 3 anyway.
There are a couple of the modules across the AAT that do require manual marking and this is where they talk about needing a training provider. Have a chat with First Intuition and one other, say Kaplan or BPP to find out how this works and the cost. eg You can sit your exam at say Kaplan have First as your training provider, so - you pay the exam fee, plus First's fee to mark the exam plus the exam centre's fee to invigilate. Kaplan charge £50 to mark the exam for example, unsure of the others. There are lots of small exam providers - best way to find them is via the AAT website - it asks for your postcode. Most list their admin fees but do not show ALL fees, so its worth a call.
The practice exams are under 'My AAT' which you can only access once you have registered and paid your student fees for the year. They include (usually) two exams, plus other practice questions.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
There is a campaign on the site at the mo (the link is somewhere lurking) to add your first name to the signature bar if its not obvious in the forum name - can you please add yours.
Thanks

Hi Joanne!
Yes, I think I'll begin directly from the 3rd level. Thank you!
