Extra energy - problem
Permalink Closed

Hi all

Was at clients this morning and they asked if I had heard of 'Extra Energy'. I hadnt.  But it appears this outfit were attempting to claim £12k via Direct Debit from my (Ltd Co) clients account, due to be paid on Monday 7th.  Client had enough in  the Bank to cover it but fortunately checked his balance this morning to pay other bills!!!!

The Bank have agreed to cancel the Direct Debit so it will not be paid.

Ive suggested he report it to the Bank as an attempted fraud/issue to be raised by his Bank to the originating Bank/AUDDIS as a potential breach of the Direct Debit regs.

But one to watch out for/be aware of.

The company is legit, as far as I can tell.  German based supplier who entered the UK market this year.

Obviously there's been some sort of error here, and he needs to contact their billing dept asap.

Strangely enough, I has a call from them earlier in the week.  Good pitch to be fair.  How much is your bill because we will save you money.  I said, can you beat free?  I always have great delight in telling the utility suppliers that I don't pay for my electric, it's included in the rent!

Hi John
He told me he had seen some dreadful reports about their customer service from review sites, which does surprise me given the usual German efficiency. Biggest issue here is that he is NOT a customer. Ive suggested that it could be just a few digits out on the old account number although Direct Debit companies have strict rules to follow so if its reported as a fraud then this can be traced back via the Banks to make sure that they arent in breach of Auddis etc regs, or can track down whoever has purportedly set this one up. Wouldnt suggest it normally but have given the amount!

Thought I would add it on here to see if it sparked an issue with anyone else.

Lol on the free electric......have you got the outside of your house and gardens covered with Christmas decs that light up the whole neighbourhood?

Hi Joanne

Sorry, I didn't realise he wasn't a customer of theirs.....ouch!  That could have been costly.

I meant free electric at the office, not at home, although that would be nice.  You've given me an idea. I need 1.2 miles of cable and wollah, free electric at home as well biggrinbiggrin
