I ran payroll today for a client, a week early due to Christmas. However he asked me to set the bank payments to go next week. I processed everything with today's date although the employees won't be getting their money till next week as I couldn't see a way of changing it due to the set up. They have notes to say when payment will be received, but can we get in trouble for the process date on the payslip being today and not next week.
From an RTI perspective its on or before. But the payslip should state when the pay is due. What software are you using? Most software Ive come across allows you to process the payroll in advance and already has the 'due date' for the payroll on the system so that the payslips show the correct info. Ive done that before (Moneysoft) and have just received a batch for another client from their Accountant (Brightpay) as its very common at this time of year. Might be worth speaking to the software's helpdesk if no-one on here can help you.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
What system are you using? usually after you run it, it asks for the paydate so you can alter it. You can always run before, but should be able to amend the pay date. If system has a helpline ring them.
