Looking for a software recommendation to track income and expenses and do payroll
Permalink Closed

Hi.   Closing in on retirement, I've been gradually downsizing my home based bookkeeping business and currently only have three small businesses.  One I do off site, so use their software.   For the other two I have been using Quick books for probably 25 years but it is getting to expensive to renew the payroll subscription each year.   I know longer need anything as powerful as QB.  All I do for the two companies I'm still handling is record their income and expenses.  I could almost use a spreadsheet but still want to be able to produce P&L's, etc.   However, they do each have a handful of employees, so I need to still be able to do payroll, quarterly and annual reports, but need to do it less expensively.

I though about going back to doing payroll using a circular E and doing all the reports long hand, but as a last resort.   I would actually give up handling these business but I have been doing their books  for years and their probably going to be looking at retirement soon as well, and I just don't want to put them in a situation to have to find someone new.

I am looking for a software recommendation or advice on handling these two clients without much overhead.

Thank you.

Gail

Hi Gail,

this is possibly the wrong site for you as this site is predominantly UK based.

general advice for people in the UK tends to be VT transaction+ for bookkeeping, VT Accounts for UK GAAP compliant accounts, 12pay or Moneysoft for Payroll.

Of course, all of that software is based on UK tax and accounting standards with even the bookkeeping package there using VAT, not the local Amaerican sales taxes.

For America I think that I would possibly stick with QB as its software very much geared to your market.

sorry that the reply is not more helpful but as I say, not really a site geared towards the American market.

kindest regards,

Shaun.
