Cashback

Morning all,

I have a client whose income is solely via debit/credit card and we have used the takings from these showing on the bank statements as their income. However, they are now stating that part of these amounts are actually reimbursements for cashback given to customers.  I've asked for the Streamline statements so I can see the split between actual takings and cashback only to be told that information is not shown on the statements.

I've not had a client who's given cashback before so I have no idea whether this information does show on the statement or they're just trying to pull a fast one.  Does anyone else have any experience of this type of transaction??

Thanks in advance

Hi Jenny

Cashback as in the customer spends £62.39 then asks for cashback of £20?   (just had to completely scrap what I put thinking you meant cashback as a discount)

Would he not have a till record of cashbacks?  I'm also wondering how the cashbacks are given if he doesn't take cash?

Hi,

Yes, exactly that type of cashback. He says that on the card machine z reads it gives the breakdown, but they haven't kept them....

Yep, I'm also wondering that, which is partly why I'm trying to get some watertight backup evidence. I've seen plenty of Streamline statements over the years, but unfortunately never from establishments that give cashback.
