Becoming a Bookkeeper and then a CPA

Hi, FatWallet Brand new to the forum and I've got some goals in mind. my questions relate to how i am to achieve the below stated goals in the form of an objective (small things that when put together create the goal/happy product)

a little background: I've been doing DoD Bookkeeping in the military for 8 years. it's very different than Civilian bookkeeping. basically Ive got experience doing the following

o Auditing/Reconciliation

o Data Entry

o Documenting/Record Keeping

o Electronic Data Security

o Electronic Spreadsheet Formatting

o File System Development/Maintenance

o General Ledger Accounting

o Word Processing Formatting

I want to get a cert from "The American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers" (any better suggestions?)

doing a lot of reading on google is going to seriously buff my understanding of the civilian field and for the most part thats really all I need, but I feel forums have a place.

Im going for a B.S. in bullshit, just kidding. Its a business admin in finance and acc with a minor in forensic acc.

 QUESTION:

Where would one who is savvy and just starting out go to learn, or in your personal experience what would you have done differently to increase your skill faster?

Hello there
Appears you have stumbled onto a forum based in the UK so we wouldnt be able to help you with anything relating to the American Institute.

Good luck with it though.

Certainly not from the state of the orange drizzle cake for diabetics that I tried yesterday!  Straight in the bin!   Although hoping an earlier batch of rum balls hit the spot.....
