Accounting student seeking experience Glasgow/Lanarkshire

Hi there,

I am currently seeking some basic bookkeeping experience to compliment my studies and wondered if anyone on this forum would like me to help them out.

Academic:

Last year I studied for B190 at open uni and got a score of 95%

This year I have studied for B291 (Financial Accounting) my continuous assessment score is 81 and am just about to take my exam on 14th March.

I will then study for B292 (Management Accounting)

I will then have exemptions from C1-C5 with CIMA. I intend to study for a BSc in accounting with CIMA at Robert Gordon Uni next year.

Experience:

I spent a few years after leaving school doing temping, the majority of this was in junior admin, customer service and some basic accounts/data entry roles. I have had a period of about 11 years where I have not been in employment due to looking after my own children and fostering others. I have also provided assistance to my husband who has his own business. I have since stopped foster caring and my children are older now so I have been studying with the Open University to get myself prepared to return to the workplace.

I attended numerous courses and seminars at business gateway in 2007. This was in order to provide my husband with the help he needed to get his business off the ground. Courses I recall are: raising finance, writing a business plan, understanding management accounts, marketing, negotiation skills, sage. I have been actively engaged with various aspects of his business.

More info is available on request.

Lyndsay

Hi Lyndsay
I'm jot based close to you, but just wanted to say welcome to the forum and good luck with your course etc.

Just thought it was worth mentioning, it might be worth setting up the PM facility on your profile then if someone wants to contact you directly they can do so easily.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Hi Lyndsay
Sometimes it wont let you after others have posted. Sometimes it does - drives me nuts. Maybe post below what you want to post and then request (in the same post) that Mr Moderator be kind and tidy it up for you. Not sure if he will but worth a try.

He's a mean fickle sod that moderator Joanne wink

Hi Lyndsay,

that OU course is really under rated  but I did the forerunner of that one (B680 which also had an additional module which went into accountancy theory and economics) and it really sets you up to move onto ACCA or CIMA.

How wise it is to skip early modules with CIMA just because you can is debatable as the early papers get you into the question style before thngs start to get too complex.

Your choice but personally I did the papers that I had exemptions from and it really helped.

You can also PM me your proposed change to your post if you like.

Good luck in finding a suitable training position Lyndsay,

kindest regards,

Shaun.
