Dealing with Company name changes in Sage

What is the correct way to deal with a Company amalgamation in Sage.

I have two companies with the same trading name -  but with North and South Divisions. I only have sales records for the Northern Division. They have now told me that the companies have reorganised and both the North & South Divisions have amalgamated into one company.  Since all other details - contacts and phone number  and even the address is unchanged in Sage is it correct just to change the company name by dropping the division or should I really create a completely new record for the new amalgamated company. As there is  a Sales Dept  raising orders having two companies to choose from with the same name  may cause confusion.

Any thoughts please.

Marina

Hi Marina.  Have they set up a new company or using one of the existing companies for both?

If new company you will need to set new company up with fresh start.  If existing company then if Northern you would continue as you are,  (dropping the word Northern) if Southern company being used then it'll whatevers being used at present for that one.

Hi Marina
Im not sure I understand fully (being a bit thick this morning, but also dosed up on double hayfever medication!)

So just to clarify my understanding, you have:-

four companies in sage?

ABC Limited T/a North with sales/costs in sage
ABC Limited T/a South with ? in sage
XYZ Limited T/a North with sales/costs....
XYZ Limited T/a South with? ....

And going forward you have
JKL Limited (previously north divisions moved out of ABC/XYZ)
RST Limited (previously south divisions moved out of ABC/XYZ) ?

Is this a networked version of sage so that the sales department are raising sales orders via sage? Or just you using sage?

How many unused companies do you have on sage?

When was the re-organisation done and when is the year end?

If I havent got your new structure right, can you please advise.

 Hi Joanne

I read it as 2 companies ABC (Northern) Ltd and ABC (Southern) Ltd, and that either a new company ABC Ltd or one of the existing companies changed to ABC Ltd, but yes, I can see it's as likely to be your interpretation.  Guess we'll have to wait for more info.
