Tax Allowances on Tax Return
Permalink Closed

I hope someone may be able to help as I'm having a blank moment.

My client is an employee with Marriage allowance and a further employment allowance in his tax code.

He also rents out property, hence the self assessment.

I cannot see anywhere on the self assessment to add these allowances (options for transferring marriage allowance to someone else but not receiving it) so therefore the calculation shows with standard tax code.

I'm sure I am being completely crazy and there is a very simple tick box somewhere

Please help anyone

Valerie

Hi Valerie

No, don't worry, you aren't going mad. The recipient of the marriage allowance has nothing on their self-assessment for this - HMRC apply it when they receive the tax return no well, that's the theory anyway!

Main thing for you - you won't find it on there anywhere, and you'll need to check after you've submitted the return to make sure it has been applied correctly.

Thanks for that Helen

I'm not sure my head can cope with the tax return calculation differing from my own!

My own software allows you to input the tax code, isnt it crazy that the HMRC own website cannot recognise it, you would assume the national insurance number would automatically bring it up.
