Student Loan repayments and nic's

I know student loan deductions are based on niable pay.  I have an unusual situation where an employee of a payroll doesn't pay ni contributions (neither ees or ers) as he's an Elim Pentecostal Minister of Religion and they're exempt.  I have received an SL1 to start deducting loan repayments but my software won't deduct them.  is this correct?

Hi Martyn
Welcome to the forum. We always ask newbies to do a little intro about themselves, bookkeeper or Accountant, where based, which prof body you are with, what level of study or QE, how long you've been in this crazy business, that sort of thing. Just a few lines, helps everyone to get to know you a little and also to help pitch (future) answers.

What software are you using?

Think I might become a Minister to avoid NI - sounds like its way better than the Employment Allowance, which has been restricted this year!

I thought Student loan repayments were based on pay rate.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
