Its been a while since I have been at a place that's been investigated by the dreaded VAT man (or woman)
I was most surprised when a letter dropped through saying there isĀ a telephone call first to go through some questions and depending upon the answers, there may be no need for further investigation.
Has anyone else had this, and if so, after the call were you still investigated?

I've had a couple of these, neither of which progressed to an actual visit.
Discussed a few things, asked if we were happy to send a detailed report of the last VAT return (we were - seemed prudent!) and once they had that they asked to be emailed a few sales & a few purchase invoices, some of their choosing, some a random choice by me. Then they emailed to say they were closing their file
I think they just don't have the man power to make visits unless they really feel it will be worth their while.
"I work for the most disorganised firm ever, and the thought of a full blown VAT visit is enough to get me off on long term sick for that month!!"
Just the one?
I'm a bloody magnet for them. I reckon they talk amongst themselves and recommend me because I somehow manage to produce something half sensible from chaos. (But only half sensible because I don't include psychic abilities in my service, so if they don't provide me with information I need, I can't magic up stuff based on it).
