Hi All

Sorry if you thought you had got away from me but Friday Fun needs to return and you need someone with the relevant skills for such frivolity

I have been away as I had a jigsaw to complete, it only took me two years which I was chuffed about as it said on the box 3 to 5 years :)

Hope all the regulars are well and yes Im back biggrin

Dave

Good thanks, well apart from being really very ill and in agony on a daily basis over the last three weeks after picking up a viral bug from a lovely client, who likes to dump his bugs on me as well as receipts.

Oh no, strictly a Thorntons Continental gal these days, I only go for the very best.

Hope you're keeping well and not falling from too many drainpipes!

Morning Jo

Sorry to hear you are unwell, Im sure there are better bonuses to get from a client than a virus.

No my drainpipe days are over I am afraid, two stone in weight and an artificial hip put paid to that, but hey I have my memories and the odd photo :)

Although I have not been on here I do keep an eye on the posts and the same topics keep going around in a never ending circles.

But good to see your always there to offer help and support. Well done by the way on your Bookkeeper award, bet you were chuffed?

Dave

Yep, people keep getting bits of paper that say that they are bookkeepers, have no actual practical experience in the industry, open a business going well beyond trial balance because their bit of paper says that they can and then we try to fix / save them before they do any real damage to themselves or their clients.

Never ending circle... Should we stop?

Hi Dave
Thanks for the concern, I will be well again soon I'm sure, I'm slowly getting there. Sounds like you've been in the wars though, reckon a hip replacement would have been way more painful, but at least now you could be the bionic man,  surely!

Thanks for the belated thanks, lol. A very lovely and unexpected honour that one and I still have to keep pinching myself.

Oh my, yes the same questions, luckily for the posters certain people have the patience of a saint and answer in full, whereas I sometimes get bored of saying the same thing and just tell them to have a look round the site....well let's face it some of the topics have been covered very well before and as long as it's not technical guidance or too old a posting, it's still relevant.

Morning Joanne,

glad that you're on the mend hun. You've been working way too hard (pot/kettle/I know!).

I'm honestly not annoyed, Daves really not the sort of person that it's easy to get annoyed with. I just try to nip these things in the bud now since Brian last came on sowing factually incorrect seeds of discontent so Dave is pretty much getting the fall out from that in that the site is now much less tolerent of throw away or ill conceived comments that question its integrity, readership or contribution to the industry.

I understand the annoyance of training providers that site members here (not the site itself) always push AAT as a minimum qualification for bookkeeping (#1) as it is now defined (by size of entity rather than where the work stops) but to be fair they could also offer the full AAT qualification themselves in which case we would be their new best buds for the amount of people that we advise to consider that route.

#1 Assuming no prior experience.

Hey Chums

Arrr the beauty of the written word always open to interpretation where 2 and 2 quite often make 5, which is funny on a Bookkeeping Accounting Forum. lol

It is far easier for newbies to make posts asking questions that have already been covered in previous threads rather than searching for a said previous thread that newbies will not be aware are there, that was the point I was making. Hence the circle.

Tut Tut

I get the unqualified people and newly qualified people running before they can walk debate. I cant be getting involved in whose qualification is the best argument as I have said all along it is all dependant on what the individual is looking to gain from studying for a qualification.

We are all aware that there is no legal requirement to be an Accountant or Bookkeeper that the said person needs to be with a professional body. The buck stops with the client, simply if a client feel their Bookkeeper is not doing a good job they will find someone else. I know for a fact clients virtually never ask a Bookkeeper or an Accountant what qualification they have as they don't care. All they care is can you do what you say you can?

Ol Dave is not here to rock any boats, just miss the banter and that is all I am here for :)

No probs Dave, just noticed on Facebook that TL's acquired our boy Neil to add to your stable of tutors. Does this mean that you'll be bringing him to the sunny Midlands? Tell him to get his Linkedin profile updated with his new employer and also to get his arse back on here again.

Its a good point thats been mentioned on here before about clients not realising that accountants come in different flavours and it really supports the industry move to get the term protected in statute (as it is everywhere else in Europe) as at the moment business owners (and the media) seem to have the attitude that anyone who calls themselves and accountant must be one with exactly the same qualifications, experience requirements and adherence to the IFAC code of ethics.

Ahh, penny drops. Knew there was some reason you were back. lol

Quote from TL Facebook "Training Link would like to welcome our newest quality addition to our already outstanding team. Neil Concannon. Those of you who visit our Facebook page will notice some major changes taking place with the help of Neil. Some of you may even know him if using the BKN forum where he was known as Spam Kebab."

Not seen SpamKebab on here since 2015!!!!!!! Come back Spam Kebab. Reckon it was the last mention of a get together that mightve scarred him off! Cant believe Neil is deserting the second city of the UK to go and live somewhere where they have dodgy Brummie accents!!!!!

BKN has also had a few others pop back in the last week or two - getting to a certain time of year again, perhaps. Cynic....moi? Noooo.

Be good to see more of the oldies back, might help with the ever increasing circles of questions.

All good circles eventually lead back to where you started.

Hi Im Dave, good to be back :)

Yes Steve did go to the West Country as he wanted to take his wealth of bilingual expertise to the yokel masses, you should travel to the West Country Jo and you will find in many of the cafe's they now offer Devonshire Cream Scones with a Kipper Tie. Need I say more :)

Hi Dave, welcome back.  I started here just before you disappeared and probably caught the last two or three Friday Fun threads, and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Now as the wonderful Shaun and Joanne (1) will no doubt tell you, I have a (strange) sense of humour, but I try to keep the jokes to a minimum because I can hear the groans from Staffordshire and Stockport from here biggrin

But one that did make me laugh out loud a few weeks ago was:

Saw my mate the other day, he's only got one arm bless him. " Where you off to?" I asked.  "I'm off to change a lightbulb" he said.  "Ahem, won't that be a awkward" I said.  "Not really" he replied "I've got the receipt"

(1)  Sorry to read you've not been well Joanne,  Here's to a speedy recovery.

Morning John

Cheers my friend, and yes your one armed joke made me titter :)

I love humour, can take the mick of myself and don't take myself too seriously. I am however very serious when it come to my job. I have had some great laugh out loud moments on here, and made a couple of friends too.

Friday fun needs a return but alas today I am getting ready to attend a wedding.

Thanks for the welcome :)

Dave

I hope you are looking after him and give him a generous coffee allowance.  He is even moodier than normal when he hasn't had his 5 cups of builders brew!

All the best

Morning Nick

Yes Ol Spam will be well looked after, he needs the coffee for energy as I have never seen him eat anything apart from biscuits and chocolate. He has his head down working at the moment but dare say he will make an appearance soon. Gary is monitoring his every move lol.

I see you are still doing your running and keeping fit, I thought fatherhood would have given you a pot belly by now lol.

All the best Nick
