I have been out of the book keeping loop for quite a while and have recently been asked to do book keeping for a client out of the blue. I've been given a box of bank statements to sort through. Some have been entered on sage but i'm not sure if any have been reconciled. How can I find out when the last reconciliation was done and whether it matched the actual bank statements. I'm using Sage 50, I haven't used this version before hence my probably quite simple question.
OOps! So I've just found out what I've asked. Now my problem is there seems to be over 10,000 of a difference between the bank statements and sage!!! So I presume it just a case of trawling through all info that they have given me to see how to resolve it. So I may be back when I find the problem to ask for help to correct it!
Hi Fiona
The previous bank recs should be in a folder on the pc somewhere, depends on where the original software was loaded. If you cant see it easily, then a quick way is to go to the Bank account concerned, click on the reconcile tab and when the rec screen opens up click on 'view history' button (usually at the bottom of the screen, but dependent on the sage version).
You can also get a reconciled or indeed an unreconciled trans report from the 'Bank' option reports module.

Missed your second post earlier as I was typing my answer.
Don't forget timing differences re I presented cheques and items not banked, so don't forget to get the cheque book and paying in hook and the dates of items before you start. Methodical tick back sounds like the order of the day, hope there isn't a lot!.

I used to do the books for this person before, I am self taught (only doing it for 4 years but only one persons accounts so their accounts is all I know) and kept his accounts in order to the penny. Took 2 years out to spend time with my daughter, have been asked to resume doing the books. The tax year 15/16 is showing a difference of £17,000 between sage and the bank accounts!!!
I'm working from home so have been given a new laptop with just the sage software on it nothing else. I have had a quick look but it looks like the errors are from the start of the tax year and probably straight through . As an example, on sage a payment for vehicle licensing is recorded as 323.40, but the bank statement shows a payment of 269.50, so it looks as some transactions when inputted had vat added to them when it was not needed. I have no idea how to rectify each transaction, as I cannot start to reconcile this tax years bank statements until I am starting from the correct balance.
Oh by the way it seems I am using version 22 of sage, this is new to me as I was using a particularly old version last time so I am slowly navigating my way around.
