I have been looking online but have found conflicting advice, so I am turning to you for yours.
One of my clients has made up Christmas Boxes for their customers containing various chocolates, biscuits, fruit etc, now my question is:
1) Can the VAT be claimed back
2) can tax relief be claimed
Now, I've seen on one site that you can claim the VAT but not tax relief and another that says you cannot claim either! None of the gifts are monogrammed with the company name / logo and they do not exceed £50.
Hi Corrinna
Have you managed to locate any of the HMRC manuals in this regard?
Ive not looked for them Im afraid but would suggest its worth a quick hunt round for the appropriate manual to get their guidance. Sorry I havent got time to provide a link.
That said my understanding in your particular case is no and no.
They are treated as entertainment (isnt advertising, is below £50 and is food.) Which is probably why so few people tend to do it these days.
Hope they didnt do too many expecting to keep their tax down etc.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
