Hi everyone - I'm considering starting the AAT level 2 and 3 foundation certificate Bookkeeping distance learning course with Premier training - reading the forums they seem to have good feedback - any advice would be gratefully received. Realistically how long will it take to qualify doing about 4 hours learning each week. Do I need to do a separate compurised bookkeeping course in between level 2 and 3.
You can see that Premier have won awards on here in the past if you check out the awards page.
Firstly, the last question, you will do manual and computerised bookkeeping as part of the level 2 certificate so no need to worry about that. Best thing is to check out what premier offer to train you on for the computerised module and then check that a local training centre uses the same system. They generally use sage one or sage 50, but don't wade through your course, book the exam then to find the exam centres don't do the one you are on. You can always find another exam centre, depending on where you are based-whe is that, by the way?
Four hours a week isn't much to dedicate to your studies, do you have any possibility of doing more (lunch times, getting up an hour earlier, splitting between two days at the weekends?) it is do-able but will just take you longer. That said, it's hard to say how long it will take you as we have no idea of your background ( perhaps add something as it helps get to know you) or indeed the time it takes for you to pick things up. Some people find one module harder than another. Eg I did one at level three in just 6 hours but I've heard folk taking months on it, just depends on your preference for the subject matter. Give yourself about 12months. You might do it in a lot less.
Do you plan to do your level four as well? What is that you want to do with the qualification when you have it?
