I think I've made a huge error with 100+ entries using the UIS and wondered how I can go about resolving the issue.
Several payments were entered mostly from courier firms such as DHL, FedEX etc. for which supplier accounts were not setup. These entries were imported via the UIS feature and incorrectly marked under 'BANK>BARCLAYS CURRENT ACCOUNT'. Now that they're in, I'm finding I have to manually go back into each and every transaction and mark it against a supplier - very laborious indeed. Is there a quicker way?
I'm struggling to understand the 'accounting' concept of why 'BANK' is even shown under 'ANALYSIS ACCOUNT' in VT+? I mean, surely, all payments will be to a 'supplier' of some sort?

Sage
very funny.... I'm in the process of switching Sage off for 26 divisions of a corporate client at the moment. Unfortunately they're not going to VT but rather a third party Oracle based platform... Not the one that I want them to have but provided that it's away from Sage I'm happy.
26 down, couple of hundred thousand more to go... I may be away some time, lol.

If you have issues with VT because you did something incorrectly then you can simply delete the entries and do them again (take a backup first). Once deleted you can just do them again... Try doing that with Sage, lol.
kindest regards,
Shaun.

Depends what you need. I need all bells and whistles due to some of the more shall I say unusual client requirements. Oh for a straight forward client. Would the basic sage accounts package not suffice? I have one who uses the vat margin scheme and is using a 2008 version of sage, so worked out pretty cheap for them.

Well admittedly I wouldn't need all the bells and whistles, but security updates and such like I would need.
I have looked at SJ ******** but as I say the numbers are well, eye watering!
The subscription model is temping I guess, £60 pm for 10 clients, it's the numbers after that which begin to sting.
I'd like to say there is plenty of accounts software which can compete with Sage, but I don't think there is. QB doesn't come close - for me, I know others love it.
Not forgetting VT too, I know that is very popular.

Security updates? What for? 2008 version and not a single update, works perfectly. 2006, 2013, 2015, 2016 also with no updates done and all work perfectly fine.

Last time I saw mention of Moneysoft Payroll (which is irrelevant to me) I noticed that there is also something called Money Manager - with a price of £85 plus VAT and (and here's the notable bit) "can be used for any number of business and personal Accounts."
Being busy, I haven't looked any further - but I am wondering what it's like. Does anyone use it?
Er... let me rephrase that. Of course people use it. Does anyone *here* use it? If so, what's it like?
(It does have a free trial, but I don't want to download and install that until and unless I know I'm going to have time to play with it before the trial expires!)

Tim used to use it but he's not been on here for a while. He's the only one that I know that swore by it. VT definitely seems to have cornered that part of the market as well as accounts production (which is where they make their money rather than with Transaction+).
just a flying visit,
all the best,
Shaun.

Just downloaded it and I don't like it. It's laid out in the form of a spreadsheet (which you can't click into) and as can be seen from the instructions you have to first click on entries., which brings that screen up, and then press insert on your keyboard.
You have to set up codes for each category, and they are only a single letter or digit, so max of 36 main categories.
There's no profit and loss sheet, trial balance or balance sheet, although there is a report screen so presumably you'd manipulate it to give you the figures required but it looks a lot of messing about.
Aaargh, you cant change the financial year until you have completed the previous year, all you do is extend the months (up to 32) until you've finalised it, then change back to 12 months and roll forward to current year.
I'm not surprised you don't like it - it's Windows 10.
Oh, sorry, you meant Money Manager ;)
Interesting, ta.
FWIW, the reason I need more spare time to be able to try it myself is that - just as any other package - I've long wanted to set up a fairly decent sized set of dummy data that I can try in each package I try, and which will cover all of things I need a decent accounts package to do, both in terms of inputting and reporting. I want to go - quite literally - full on in that sense, and have a file for a small, fake company with a year's of dummy purchase invoices, debit, credit and cash receipts, sales invoices, a disc containing various CSV files of transactions for important, dummy bank statements, and so on. The idea is that some of these transactions will borrow from existing and past clients in terms of problems I've had to deal with and come up with workarounds for.

Hahahaha Its a W8 upgrade to W10 and went smoothly. Bar a slight niggle with it (which I need to sort) it's been ok.
The same can't be said for a W8 laptop I've just spent a week or so trying to repair for a friend. It had been clogged full of the brown stuff, no anti virus other than the expired trial and it was running like treacle. I did a full reset and all I could get after that was a constant repair loop. Tried everything I could think of, and as a last straw downloaded W8 from Microsoft which has worked, without any of the manufacturers carp on there now. I've just got to add the drivers needed, and add malwarebytes and avg, and the jobs a good un (I hope)

Well if you've had no issues. Just seems to be drummed into us nowadays - update - update - update.
Thanks
Ah so Sage are jumping on that bandwagon!!!!!!! Security is covered by the standalone PC that the software runs on surely? If you buy another piece of software for you PC (loadable by disc) do you have to do 'security' updates?
Noooo.
Or am I seriously misisng something?!!!!!!

Vulnerabilities can exist not only in the operating system, but also in third party applications - including Sage. (Though I stress I'm not saying there are any!)
There are numerous avenues where a given piece of software could be vulnerable, but the first couple that spring to mind and which *do* apply to Sage are:
1) If it can load arbitrary files
2) If it connects to the intertubes
You would normally associate the ability to load arbitrary files with something that (for example) might respond to a double click on a particular file type - or has a file -> load dialogue, which Sage doesn't. Except it *does* have a file -> load dialogue. It's called file import, which can take either CSV or (IIRC) XLS/XLSX files. Can you be certain, therefore, that there isn't a situation where a particular set of characters in such a file can cause a buffer overflow, causing what follows it in the file to overwrite program code in memory?
The report generator has even more scope, because you can copy in report layout files sourced externally - so if (say) I was a dodgy type who knew of such a flaw in that, and you were to ask for help creating a report, I could send you a suitably malformed file saying "this is what you need..."
And as for #2, it connects to the intertubes for activation and updates at the very least. In some cases, people use T-Mail - that's in effect a combination of #1 *and* #2.
Any piece of software can come with free vulnerabilities as added value, which could be lurking somewhere in untouched code, waiting to be discovered and exploited.

Point taken and thanks Vince. There are of course lots of disc based products that never come with security updates is what I was thinking. Of course - sage do an update and then you end up with a .xx.xx version and sometimes then cannot re-load your original disc and so have to upgrade in the event of an issue. Clever ruse.
